Educational Centres in Northern Caucasus

DRA launched in Decembre 2007 cooperation with MEMORIAL Moscow its project to set up an educational centre in the district Prigorodnyj Rajon Nordossetia, a former combat-zone in the civil war.

DRA support a human-rights mission in Eastern Ukraine. Within the project, Ukrainian social and NGO workers are trained by international experts according to international human rights standards.

INKuLtur – For Inclusion and Participation in Cultural Life

From 2018, the DRA is implementing its programme "INKuLtur - For Inclusion and Participation in Сultural Life" in collaboration with partners from Eastern European countries and Germany.  

Mitgestalten!

The project Mitgestalten! promotes a variety of activities for more social participation of children and young people. In cooperation with local partners in Ukraine, Georgia, Russia and Armenia, the DRA was able to strengthen democracy competences and realize future perspectives in social participation of over 50,000 young people.

Dealing with change in democratic ways

The network “Transition Dialogue” focuses on the formation of knowledge and perceptions of the transition from communism in Central and Eastern Europe after 1989. As practitioners of history and civic education, we are taking a closer look at the public discourse on the topic and how transition is being taught at schools in seven European countries.

Strengthening Civil Society Cooperation in the OSCE Region

DRA coordinates several activities of the Civic Solidarity Platform aimed at promotion of human rights and improving policies in the region of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The project contributes to enhancing the continuous dialogue and cooperation between civil society organizations in the OSCE area.

The necessity to protect environment and climate becomes more and more obvious. To establish sustainable thinking in the hearts and minds of society, politics and economy still is a long process. We support journalists, civil society initiatives and decision-makers on this issue.

Strengthening the prevention of radicalisation in the North Caucasus and Tatarstan

Recent decades have seen the Russian North Caucasus repeatedly become the backdrop of war and violence. In particular, the hostage crisis of Beslan (2004), in which over 300 people were killed, left a deep impression on the Russian public consciousness. Developments in attempts at ideological radicalization under national and religious pretexts continue to have a destabilizing effect on the region.

ACCT! — Acting on Climate Change Together!

Climate change is becoming more and more noticeable in Russia as well. However, this also means that public awareness of climate issues needs to be strengthened. The ACCT project helps teachers and NGO representatives to tell teenagers and young people about the climate in an interesting way.  

Enabling socio-economic and social participation: A contribution to stabilising the crisis region of the North Caucasus

In autumn 2019 a new phase of the successful DRA education project in the Russian North Caucasus has begun. Beside measures which are directed on promoting start-ups and providing youngsters with opportunities for career orientation the project aims to strengthen inter-ethnic youth work. Another focus lies on the promotion of women.

Nowadays, rural areas in Russia and Ukraine are experiencing a structural and demographic change. Besides the distress that these changes cause to people in the regions, there are opportunities to strengthen the affected rural areas and improve the quality of life for the local population.

Strengthening Environmental Legal Instruments in Russia

Environmental pollution and destruction are massive problems in many regions of Russia, which is tolerated or not effectively regulated by state authorities. In close cooperation with its partner organizations BELLONA and the Russian-German Bureau for Environmental Information (RNEI), the DRA implements measures in this project for legal knowledge building and networking of central actors in Russian and international environmental protection.

How children and young people in Germany and Russia experience the Covid 19 pandemic

We still know not enough about how children and young people cope with the Corona crisis, how the restrictions affect them and how they perceive the isolation. But we can assume (and to some extent we do know) that in the lockdown they miss their friends, school, and the usual daily structures - that in some families they even experience (more) suffering and violence. What is this situation like in Germany? How is it in Russia? What are the similarities and differences? What do the children and young people themselves have to say?

Human Rights in Kazakhstan and Germany

Freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of assembly, freedom of conscience and freedom of religion remain high on the agenda of civil society, especially in the times of the Covid 19 pandemic. The issues of implementation of decisions and recommendations of various international agencies in support of these freedoms, such as the UN, also require greater government involvement and attention and monitoring by civil society.

Dialogue and Justice in Donbas

In March 2021 the DRA launched the Project “Dialogue for Understanding and Justice: Strengthening civil society's contribution to conflict management, to democratic and regional development and to the preparation of a safe reintegration in eastern Ukraine.”
