At the core of the project lies the exchange and transfer of knowledge through well-founded analytical contributions to the debate on green reconstruction in Ukraine. The project aims to bring together local and regional eco-activists, civil society actors, and institutional stakeholders of the environmental movement in Ukraine, fostering long-term networking that enables cooperation and collaboration. The central theme is the green reconstruction of Ukraine during and after the war.

When the project was initially planned, nobody anticipated the Russian invasion of Ukraine that occurred on February 24th. Originally, this project was designed for the eastern and western coal regions of Ukraine. Due to the hostilities in the eastern part of the country, we could no longer implement this endeavor there. Also, the thematic focus had to be realigned. The project commenced in June 2022 in cooperation with the NGO Ecoclub from Rivne, located in the northwest of Ukraine.

Furthermore, the project aims to bring together civil society and institutions dealing with environmental issues in Western Ukraine, on a supra-regional level, and through joint workshops and working groups, to identify currently urgent topics related to green reconstruction and discuss paths for socio-economic transformation in Ukrainian cities and regions.

About the project

The project is scheduled for seven months, from June to December 2022. The project activities include organizing expert discussions, public roundtable discussions on topics of green reconstruction during and after the war, and a 6-week fellowship program for actors from Ukrainian civil society and environmental institutions. Through active public relations work, the target groups involved in green reconstruction will be sensitized through media activities, creating widespread awareness of this issue in connection with the consequences of the war.
