Exchange of Volunteers between East and West

The DRA acts as an agency for volunteers who want to work in social, ecological and human rights organizations and has been sending young people from West to East and from East to West. By establishing contacts with local non-for-profit organisations in the host country and by living in the country, meeting people and experiencing a different culture, our volunteers contribute to the dialogue of civil societies.
Since 1994, the Deutsch-Russischer Austausch has been the sending organisation for more than 500 young Europeans who went to do voluntary work in Russian NGOs. In 1999, the DRA set up its West-East European Volunteers Agency with the help of the Robert-Bosch-Foundation. This provided a firm and continuous frame for the exchange and has made it possible for volunteers from Eastern Europe to go to Western Europe. So far more than 120 young people have made use of this opportunity.

In future it will also be possible to do voluntary work in the Ukraine and Belarus. If you are interested please contact us directly for more information.
In October 2004, the DRA was awarded the certificate “Quifd” for the year 2004/05, a recognition of quality for our Volunteers agency. This certificate is awarded by the Robert-Bosch Foundation to sending organisations, whose work is assessed according to certain criteria such as selection procedures, assistance given to the volunteers etc. More information under www.quifd.de
